Someone please help me. I had my brakes replaced in Oct 08. Ever since then, my ABS and Traction active light has stayed on. I had one person tell me the whole ABS and brake system had to be replaced, but I was just wondering if something went wrong with the brake replacement? Also since the same time, my car won't start the first time around. It turns over then shuts off. It will stay on when I go to start again. I'm just curious if those two situations had anything to do with each other?

I seriously doubt the ABS has anything to do with the starting but the brake job is too much of a coincidence. The procedure here is that you have to get the stored codes retreived from the ABS system and they will point you in the right direction. These are not Powertrain codes and a code reader will be no help. You need a professional ABS scan tool.

Ok thanks.. Any advice is appreciated. I know I need to take it in tomorrow, and just want to know what kind of repairs are expected. I may need to do little by little and the car not staying on once it turns over seems more important. Also once in a while, the vacuum hose pops off when I go to start it. The first time it happened had me thinking my car was going to blow up. What could cause that to happen?

What vacuum line pops off?

Is it backfiring or something? Has it always done this?

I'm obviously female and don't know much, but was told it was the vacuum line. It hasn't backfired, but I have heard a pop noise when it does come off. It has happened 3 or 4 times in the past 6 months.

I'm not sure what to tell you on that one. That is usually the result of explosions in the crankcase. That is usually the result of the oil getting diluted with gasoline but I can't begin to tell you if that is the case with you or not without examining the car.
Make sure the hose just isn't too loose to stay on.

Just try changing the oil and see if it helps that problem.
