Hello all, I'm getting close to setting my car on fire and be done with it, I brought a 1.4 VW polo 1997 at 59.000 miles on the clock as a first car, I really like VW and find it a joy to drive when there is no problems with it. When I first brought the car I had to replace the wish bones and ball joints, bushes and brakes & pads which I was ok with as these things do wear. After a short while a grinding noise was apparent, this resulted in a recon gear box which was a hard decision I know but most people I spoke to said the engine and car apart from that seem good and it will run a long time, anyway I paid for a new gearbox and clutch, the car was great for a while then I had to buy new spark plugs leads & distributor, the car ran fine for a bit more. Now a year down the line I am getting a grinding noise again which I can hear more at low speeds when not accelerating also faint when going a little faster, the noise dose go away when I shift in to neutral or put the clutch down. I cant bear to scrap the car as have spent quite a bit of money on it. Could this be the gearbox again, I have noticed the clutch is stiff at the moment? Or a timing belt change needed? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT. Cheers. Tom
