1998 ford zx2 2L standard 110k Loaded up the car with a full tank of gas last Saturday. The gas drip didn't alarm me..I thought it may be due to a pinhole rust hole toward the top of the tank. Anyway..heading down the turnpike for a 400 mile trip at a steady 65 and I notice that the tach has just dropped dead...hhmmpph.oh well..keep on going..dang the speedo just kicked the bucket...still going 65 and the car gives a few hiccups and seems like it's goin' to croak so I pull into the breakdown lane, throw on the blinkers and did a uturn for a more reliable vehicle for my long distance trip. It did the same thing heading back to the barn...go along at a steady 65 with full tank of gas..the tach drops off..then within a couple of minutes the speedo drops..and then the hiccups started. I slowed to about 50 and kept on going. The speedo and tach came back on. Any ideas? I'm a poor dope who really doesn't want to spend a pantload taking care of an issue that some of you guys (and ladies) have already gone AH HA! I KNOW what it is. Thanks

I'm afraid you're not going to get off that easy. That's going to require some testing to try to isolate the cause. You can start with checking the computer for codes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
