1999 Honda Civic Windshield Wiper Problem Sign In

Wiper linkage seems to have too much play. Wipers slap hard against car in both directions. Bad on low speed. really bad on high speed. Can't see any problem externally, except that they don't always park fully down when shut off, so I plan to take apart and try to see what is going on. Does anyone have experience with this problem or information on what to take apart to get access to motor and linkage?

I took it apart. Just had to remove the wipers and the black plastic shield held by a bunch of plastic connectors to get access. One of the linkage pivot points is worn out so I've ordered new linkage set.

I have had the same problem on 2 of my Civics. At the end of each arm is a plastic cap that fits over a pivot ball. The cap is held in place by a plastic retainer ring that is glued on to the opposite side of the arm. The arm that will be bad will have the retainer ring loose and the arm will be sliding down over the pivot ball. Pop the arm off, clean up the grease, and then reglue the ring back on to hold the plastic cap in place. Then pop the assembly back on to the pivot ball. No more slack.

Regarding the plastic clips that are pain to remove, just turn them 90 degrees and they will come out of the hole in the metal. Don't remove them from the cowling cover. To reassemble, turn back 90 degress and they will pop into place.
