1999 SUBURBAN FUEL ISSUES Sign In

i recently replaced my fuel pump on my 1999 suburban 1500k 5.7 350 vortec 4x4 as i thought this was my issue because i pulled to the store went in grabbed milk came out and it wouldnt start. Turned key and could not hear the whir of the pump. Towed it home and replaced the pump. Now pump whirs and primes the line but the first attempts to start failed as it would try to start for 1 second but then just keep cranking. Checked for spark and there is, checked for fuel inline and there is, im now think fuel pressure reg. or maybe i just dont have the psi needed to keep engine running. Hvaent tested pressure yet as i need the pressure gauge which i do not have. i checked for pressure by pressing the pin head in the valve on the line and it sprays gas out. If u need more info let me know. PLZ HELP ME!!!!!!!

Two things to check right now:

Pretty sure you need 60-66 psi at the rail with key on, engine and assessories off. If not there's a pressure issue.

Simple CTS (coolant temp sensor) right up by t-stat (yellow and black wires). 13/16th socket tis large but would take one out to replace if you wish - it's cheap and easy and sometimes the plug connector not making good contact. That tells the puter to behave as a choke for cold starts. It probably would still start but with troubles. Now with new fuel pump there would be air everywhere in lines and could be fiesty for a while till purged out. Try priming it with starting fluid - it may clear up now and be fine if this is early on after the fuel pump job,
