2000 Chevy Impala making noise near frontend Sign In

I had my car's tires rotated last weekend and after that I am hearing a loud consistent noise near the front end of the car after I reach a speed of 55 miles or over. Prior to the tires being rotated there was was no noise at all. Is it possible that something went wrong in the tire rotation? What could be happening? It seems odd that the noise started after the tire rotation.

take it to the place that rotated oyur tires and have them see what it is, they should definetly be held accountable if they ruined something and need to have this brought to thier attention.

That's not uncommon at all and it's because you waited so long to rotate. Many front wheel drive cars will get irregular wear and severe cupping on the non-drive axle which would be the rear. The longer they stay there the worse it gets. Now when you finally do move them to the front, the weight of the engine and transmission really brings out the noise. This will eventually wear off and quiet down but it will take some time. the alternative is to replace the 2 tires now on the front and next time rotate more often. You also may have some alignment issues in the rear exaggerating the problem.

That is interesting. So do you recommend taking the car back to the shop or just literally riding it out? My guess is if I take the car back to the shop they may say I need additional work such as a wheel hub assembly.

Your choices are:

Rotate the tires back in which case they will get worse
replace the 2 front tires
live with the noise
