2000 Hyundai Elantra 149856 miles 2L 4cyl ---------------- I am hoping you folks can help me out. My wife is having an issue getting her elantra to start up. At first, for the past several winters, it just wouldn't start when it was really cold out. I tried several new batteries, I put in a new alternator. Problem continued so I just started having her keep it in the garage where it doesn't get nearly as cold. Now, however, it is happening even on nice days. The starter sounds strong, and I highly doubt it is electrical given that I replaced the battery and alt. The starter tries, but the engine will just kind of sputter rather than actually start. This doesn't happen all the time. If she tries to start it while pumping the gas, that will usually get it going eventually. I have her use fuel line antifreeze when it is cold just as a precaution. Is that ever an issue? I am a fairly handy, in the sense that I tinker with stuff until it works, but with this issue I don't even know what to check. Can anyone give me any incite to this? I just don't want her to get stranded somewhere.

After sitting 1)Is the engine cranking slower, struggling to turn over? 2) Cranks fine just will not start? 1- might be a mechanical issue, fluids causing hydro lock ie head gasket, leaking injector. 2- loss of fuel pressure - a leak down condition. Fuel press reg, injectors etc. Might want to check for codes even if light is off . Fuel pressure test then leaving KOEO observe leak down, drops Xpsi in 5min.
