2000 Impala shift lever doesn't move

My 2000 Chevy Impala 3.4 won't shift into gear. It is on a hill, but shifted very hard to move it there. If I separate the linkage under the hood, it will move and shift gears.

Could be cable or somthing mechanical binding in the coloum. remove the cable at the colum and see if it's still stiff or not.. If it its then you know it's in the colum if it's not then it's in the cable.

yes, i sort of read it as you could move the lever on the transmission.. (FYI not a good idea to try if your on a hill).

Especially when parked at the bottom of the hill is the neighbor's brand new Corvette. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

As said and if this is stuck in Park on a hill could be too much force on parking pawl inside trans. If the case and this must be parked on a decent hill set parking brake hard in "N" to hold car before shifting to park, T
