2000 Nissan sentra gxe catalytic converter bad.??? Sign In

Bought a 200 Nissan sentra gxe with 141,000 miles on it. Drove for 10 miles everything was fine ran nice.  Parked for 2 hours went for a 5 mile drive at the 4 mile mark service engine lint comes on and we can't go over 30 mile per hour. Get home park the car take it out again at 9:00 pm drive it 4 miles drives great. Wake up in the morning drive to autozone to get codes checked. Try to leave autozone and the car starts and immediatley kills about 6 times. I has to push gas down to keep it running I got it home. Waited two hours started car keep gas on it wouldn't go ov 20 miles per hour. Parked on side of road for 2 minutes started again and the car drove great for the next 3 miles than the 3 miles to the auto shop had three kills and some time where it ran great. Auto shop says catalytic converter, but other people I have talked to say no. Anybody have any ideas.  The codes from the service light were. pO430 PO420 PO732 P1448 PO455

     Compression test
I had a compression test completed on my 2000 Nissan sentra today. It is a 1.8 4 cylinder the mechanic told me each cylinder had a 160 psi. Is that okay. I don't know anything about cars. Any and all help is appreciated.

It probably isn't a cat causing that because you stated it ran fine, then you after you parked it for a couple of hours it ran terrible, and then take it out again and it ran great. Cats don't unclog themselves while the vehicle is sitting. If they think the cat is causing the drive-ability problem tell them to do a back pressure test. If they have over 3 psi before the cat with the engine rpm around 2K, then the exhaust has a restriction.

They shouldn't condemn the cat for the codes until the drive-ability problem is resolved. They need to be checking the MAF sensor voltage, fuel pressure/volume, and the ignition system for faults.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I had a 2002 sentra that had the same thing happen to me. Turned out the throttle body's electronics were wiped out and the car went into limp mode. Fortunately i had an extended warranty and nissan replaced the throttle body for me for a $50 deductible :)

Here is the latest we changed the MAF with a non factory MAF. Car ran great for three days after that every morning I have hard time keeping it idling kills and no power. I drive it for 30 seconds and the car runs pretty good after that. I have read that I should put in a factory MAF. Cat converter checks out good and the fuel pressure looks good. Any ideas
