MY 2001 CAMARO DIED WHILE DRIVING. I CHECKED FOR FUEL AT THE RAIL AND NOTHING. I HAVE POWER TO THE PUMP . SO LIKE AN IDIOT I SPENT 450.00 ON A NEW FUEL PUMP AND I GOT ZILCH! STILL NO FUEL. I PUT A TEST PUMP IN LINE AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP BUT THE PUMP LACKS SUFFICIENT PRESSURE TO DRIVE THE CAR. I ALSO WANT TO FIX IT RIGHT. HOPE Y'ALL CAN HELP. THANKS JBANKS

JBANKS; If you aren't getting power to the pump, check all the fuses and the fuel pump relay. For testing, you could swap the A/C relay and the fuel pump relays. Pretty sure they are the same. Be sure to replace the fuel filter if you haven't already. Most warranties require this. Loren SW Washington

I would be curious to how you verified that you had power and what voltage you had & for how long with the key on engine off. If that is in fact all good...... don't forget about the grounds.... gotta check that to....

Thanks for the replies on my 01 camaro issues. I did swap the relays, that was first along with checking the fuse. i didn't see how long i had power or the voltage I was just poking a test light into random wires that went up near the fuel tank. If you guys can think of anything else i would sure appreciate it. Thanks again for the replies

Guest brought up a very good point.. You mentioned in your first post that you had power to the pump. Some pumps are very quiet. I'll take a funnel and insert it into the fuel neck, then have a helper turn the ignition on. The funnel will amplify the noise of the pump running. (That's for us old pharts. Deaf in one ear, can't hear out of the other.) The pump should run for a few seconds, then shut off. I doubt if it is the problem, but have you checked for a severely plugged fuel filter? If you are certain that the pump is not running at all, then like Guest mentioned, you'll need to recheck your connections. It's possible, although unlikely, that you got a defective pump, but I'd eliminate everything else before you drop the tank again. Not that it matters, what brand pump did you buy? JBANKS; I'd hold off on the ECM idea; Let's start over. It died while driving. Did you or have you performed a fuel pressure test? Have you pulled any trouble codes. I'll have to check the wiring diagram and get back to you. Not sure if your car applies, but some fuel pumps were powered through the oil pressure switch. No oil pressure, no fuel. That was in case of an accident, if the engine died, it would quit pumping fuel in case of fire. Give me a few, and I'll check that. Let me know on the other stuff. Loren SW Washington

If I've read the wiring diagram correctly, the grey wire at the fuel pump should have power from the relay for two seconds once the key is turned to the on position. I don't see the oil pressure sending unit in the picture. Going backwards through the diagram, it does end up at the PCM via the ignition control module. Obviously, electrical is my weakest, among others, point. Hopefully a GM guru will jump in here. Loren SW Washington

I WONDER WHAT THE HECK I HAD POWER FROM WHEN I WAS POKING AROUND WITH MY TEST LIGHT?? IT WAS HOT MORE THAN TWO SECS. I WILL HOLD OFF ON THE ECM AND HOPEFULLY THE GODS OF THE BOWTIE WILL BLESS MY POOR BLUE OVAL SOUL. I SEEK THEE OH GODS OF THE BOWTIE FOR I AM AN IDIOT JBANKS

JBANKS. That was funny! Glad to see you still have a sense of humor with all the problems you're having. If memory serves, isn't that fuel pump accessable through a hole under the back seat? Or, maybe trunk? If it is, you may want to take it out, for safety reasons, and apply 12V and a ground and see if the silly thing runs. I know it's new, but... I wouldn't want to do the test with the pump in the tank for fear of a spark. That could really ruin your day. Loren SW Washington

I'll toss my 2 cents in again cuz i'm still not clear on a couple of points... I would suggest starting from scratch.... Get a pressure gauge & verify you in fact have zero fuel pressure, then spray some carb clean in the throttle body & verify the engine will start & run for a second or 2, if thats the case then head back to the pump. Disconnect the 4 wire connector & with a test light probe the grey & have a helper turn the key to the on position. it should light for about 2 seconds & go out, if it doesn't you have a power problem. if it does, then get a long wire & attach the end of the test light to the + batt terminal & make sure the test light lights up when you touch ground with the probe. take the test light to the 4 wire connector & probe the large guage black wire (not the black w/white wire) if it doesn't light up, you have a bad ground, if it does then you probably have a bad fuel pump. STAY AWAY FROM THE SMALL PURPLE WIRE WITH A TEST LIGHT. That is a 5 v ref signal from pcm..... hope this helps
