2001 Citroen Saxo - High Pitch Noise Sign In

Year of vehicle - 2001
Make of vehicle - Citroen
Model of vehicle - Saxo Forte
Engine size - 1.1
Mileage/Kilometers - 75k miles

When driving, normally at higher speeds, my car sometimes makes a high pitch noise. It seems to be coming from the passenger side wheel, and if I apply the brakes even slightly the noise will stop temporarily. When I release the brakes, the noise returns. It doesn't always make a noise and I never notice it at lower speeds, maybe it's just quieter at this speed though.

I don't know much about cars, and the breaks were replaced around a year ago (shoes, pads and discs), so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: 2001 Citroen Saxo - High Pitch Noise Sign In

By the description that's a wear sensor used on many disc brakes! It's like a metal fingernail to scratch like on chaulkboard as a warning that pad life is getting low. Those, if that, usually shut up when using brakes and make noise when NOT in use. The adjustment of those can be wrong or some cars eat brakes at even in the 15-20,000 mile area all depending on how car is driven and includes the quality of pads used.

If that's what it is making the noise the real pad life left needs to be checked. I've seen those bent to do their screech thing way too early in which case if brakes are in fact still fine then can be bent back a bit and shut up.

You didn't mention new calipers and if one is dragging for any reason brakes can wear out fast. Left and right sides should show about the exact same amount of wear and if not there's an issue,
