Hey Guys, just came across your site, I have a 2001 Ford E350 Van with a 5.4 engine, and today I went out and it wouldn't start. My first thought was the battery so I hooked it up to a charger and let it charge for a couple of hours and still no luck, the unit I was using had a 200 amp start mode so I switched it over to that and I still couldn't get it to crank at all. I had good connections to the positive battery post and the engine block when I tried. Whenever you turn the key all you hear is a single click from the starter, anytime I've ever had a dead battery I always heard repeated clicks for as long as I had the key turned to start. I hooked up a voltmeter to the battery after the charging and got a solid 12.68 volts. I started to suspect the starter but was looking for additional diagnostics I could try to confirm that. I did give the starter a few wacks with a hammer to see if I could get it to start but no luck their either. Any thoughts? Thanks!

It sounds like a bad starter but you need to do some testing to confirm the battery and connections are good first. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
