2001 Olds Aurora, Noise help

I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora V6. I am concerned with a noise only audibly noticeable when I hit 30mph, it can best be described as a low, rough hum. As I increase with speed the noise becomes faster and less rough but still audible. I think that it might be the final drive, as it doesn't sound as if it is coming from the tires. However I am not sure about either of those. I have also slid it into neutral while driving to see if the noise would vanish, it did not and only became lower and less audible again when it hit 30 mph and lower.

That could be tires with irregular wear or a bad wheel bearing. I would try rotating the tires first.

Exactly as HT suggest but I'll add if humm gets worse cross rotating it suggests tires. Cross vs just front to rear. Pay attention to noises as they are warnings and almost always best to tend to early. If a bearing and very early it can be difficult to find but a good tech should be able to,

I don't think crossing the tires will tell you much on a FWD car. Moving them to the rear will take all the weight off of them and the difference would be real noticeable if the tires are the cause.

What I was thinking is if tires are sawtoothing I'll call it they sound worse when the finally spin the other way at first and if slight enough can correct but might only be eliminated with new tires and pay better attention to rotating tires regularly,

I have replaced the tires and rotated/balanced them. The noise still persists, however I noticed that it quiets when I turn the steering wheel slightly to the right. Turning the wheel to the left does not produce the same effect. Thanks again for the advice.

NO BRAINER...front wheel bearings are very very common on all Gm front wheel drives...

Alright you guys have been a huge help. I am deep into changing the wheel bearing and stalled when attempting to remove the brake caliper. It appears to be catching on something and will only come half-way off. Is there something that I am not seeing?

There is probably a lip on the rotor and the pads need to be pushed back some.

Yep, thanks hammertime it came off smoothly afterwards. I still was unable to finish, was working on it in the driveway and interrupted by a late snowstorm.
I started thinking, when he said wheel bearing on right-side tire, that would be the passenger side wouldn't it? Or could he have been saying the right side if standing in front of the car.
