2001
nissan
altima
2.4l 4cyl
~115k mi

i have a 2001 altima with about ~120k miles, oil changes at every 3-4k interval. recently had the intake manifold gasket replaced for $400 to fix a rough idle. the car no longer has a rough idle, but i got it back with a dead speedometer and odometer. they were working fine before.

and my car intermittently refuses to accelerate even at full gas. it drives fine from a complete stop, but when i've been going for a few minutes, it'll suddenly decelerate and bounce between 1.5k and 2k rpm. the engine makes the throttle sounds from 1.5k to 2k, but then it dies back down to 1.5k silent and starts revving again. all the while my foot is pushing the gas solid. but when i come to a complete stop, and accelerate again, it runs fine for another few minutes, then goes into no response mode again.

i had a CEL before and pulled the code P1126, which the guys at pepboys told me was a bad thermostat. but then a few days later the CEL turned off so i assumed it was that benchmark number of ignitions and the problem wasn't really a problem.

i'm going to take it back to the mechanic tomorrow, and hopefully he'll realize one of his workers did this because i never had these problems before. the only issue i had, which i paid him $400 to fix, was an occasional rough idle.

it seems to me whoever worked on my car broke the speedo/odo sensors in the process, or forgot to reconnect them somehow. and while reassembling the engine/drivetrain, somehow made my car worse than when i brought it in.

any help, advice, or anything would be appreciated.

Are they responsible for the windows not working and the worn out tires too?

ahh haha ok i see what you were insinuating there.

sure i can't point it 100% to the mechanic. or else i'd be a mechanic.

but i had no other problems before i took it into him, other than the rough idle. my speedo/odo were working fine, and i've never had this acceleration problem before.

FYI i got my car back from the shop yesterday. the shop is a few blocks from my apartment and i didn't notice the speedo/odo and acceleration issue until after they closed shop for the day.

so in all fairness to the mechanic, i can't be 100% sure it was him. but like any good mechanic who uses a process of elimination to figure out the issue, why would i be in the wrong to do the same?
