2001 neon. At take off car doesn't want to move. Its get up and go got up and went. When rpm reach between. 4 and 5 k it runs fine. But every time I stop at light or slow to turn it doesn't want to go. Feels like it might stall. Plugs are fine and so it air filter. Any suggestions?

Check engine light on? Automatic or manual transmission? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Automatic. No check engine light is not on. Just got oil change. The idle runs rough when stopped at a light or stop sign too. But that has been going on for several years and I haven't figured that out either. I had a new transmission put in about 18 months ago as well.

When you mean rough, does the engine feel like it is misfiring? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

It has back fired once. Or at least it sounded like it. Wasn't very loud.

When you turn the ignition on with the engine off, does the check engine light do a bulb check or light up? When it backfired, did it sound like it came out the exhaust or the intake? If the engine is bogging out while trying to accelerate, you may need to check your fuel pressure. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? I do not have a gauge. Yes the light comes on and It was hard to tell because it wasn't very loud but it sounded like it came from front end so intake.

If it is popping up through the intake and bogging out when trying to accelerate, it could be running really lean. There is a test port on the fuel rail you can screw your gauge to. Turn the ignition on a couple of times. The fuel pressure should be around 58 psi and it shouldn't bleed off after the pump shuts off. You can also start the engine with the gauge connected and watch the fuel pressure as the problem is occurring. If the fuel pressure is really low, you might have a plugged up fuel filter or worn out fuel pump. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
