I'm having an issue with my a/c not engaging as well as having a leak somewhere. The leak I'm already addressing myself as I've bought a can of UV dye a/c juice, so I'll be searching for very soon. I'm stating this for thoroughness purposes only.
My problem with my compressor is that it won't engage when I turn the ac on. I've checked the clutch and the coil by hooking the coil up to an independent power source, and both the coil and the clutch on the compressor work just fine. I thought that it could be a fuse issue, but I replaced the fuse with a brand new one and it still doesn't work. I haven't really gone deeper than that since I don't know where to start. I could check the wiring behind the panel or check the wiring in the engine compartment, but I'll ask a professional first.

the PCM is sensing the low refrigerant charge and disabling the compressor. This is a protection default to prevent major damage to AC system.
Find the leak and someone will offer suggestions.
-Todays AC systems are not as forgiving as the older systems, evacuate systems, weighed in amounts, High and low pressure needs monitoring. And the PCM is often involved in the operation - there might be codes. Yes even if light is out.

Other: 188K and a 2003: These have above average failures of evaporators and system will shut down from lack of proper charge.
You might find oils in the water drain tube which would about prove that. Very costly IMO and other things may also come along soon.
High chance a leak is the source problem and the fix might be more costly than justified despite hot in many places right now.
Try to know what the problem is and how much and decide fix it or change out vehicles over it. It can be fine without A/C but not during a heatwave as you may know,

Just let me add that low refrigerant is not the only possible cause of the compressor clutch not engaging. There are pressure sensors, thermostats, relays, wiring issues and fuses that can also fail

Hammer Time: Thanks for the heads up. Right now my main concern is fixing the leak, but you've definitely given me something a check list that I can go down, should it be more than the low pressure issue.

I bought a can of colored refrigerant and ran most of it through the low end, but I couldn't see it anywhere. I traced the sound, however, to just behind the radiator. I'm going to be replacing a headlight bulb in the next day or so, and I was going to look around closer then.
What sort of work am I looking at here?

You need a UV light and yellow glasses to see the dye.

I could've face palmed when Inread that. Ithought that I could nust see the dye since the low end was green

? You seem to have added refrigerant with dye in it which adds refrigerant as well. The charge now is unknown.
UV dye you (green stuff) you can see without ultra-violet light and if so should be easy to know where the leak(s) are. UV light and glasses along with other evidence and tests to find all leaks.
Refresh: It doesn't have to have a leak at all to not work so adding refrigerant with dye now you are at least committed to get the charge correct or it will default to not operate,
