2004 Ford F-150 intermittent start Sign In

Hello all! I have a 2004 Ford F-150 XLT with an intermittent start issue. It just started this morning. I would put the key in ignition, turn it to start, and it won’t start. The relay would click and the fuel pump would prime, but the starter didn’t engage. Put it in neutral and the same thing happened. Waited a couple minutes and the truck started fine.

Oh, and the battery voltage reads fine on the dash.

Single click when going to use starter are usually a battery cable connection problem would check all right at battery on to their destinations positive and negative to block,

The battery cable ends on this vehicle are known for connection issues with no visible indication. Remove all the cables and wire brush the ends and the terminal bolts.

Ok, I think I found the source of the issue. When the truck won’t even try to start, the anti-theft light is blinking rapidly when the key is in the on position. But, when the truck does start, and the key is in the on position with the engine off, the light does not blink at all. Should I still try the battery connection?

Don't bother,

That means the truck isn't recognizing the key.

It could be a bad key or a bad sensor or related wiring in the ignition switch. If you have a second key, try that.
