2004 Jeep Wrangler wont turn over Sign In

Was driving home from work. Stopped at store, came out turned key and one loud click and car doesn't turn over. Tow truck driver thought it was starter, so did I. Called mechanic and he agreed it was the starter. Bought and installed and same thing, one loud click and doesn't turn over. I tried to turn it several times and one click every time. When I had someone try to start it I put my hand on the starter and felt it and could feel the solenoid kinda thud when the click noise happened. It's not several clicks like when the battery is low. Please help, have to go to work in morning. Thank You.

Put a socket on the crankshaft bolt and see if you can turn the motor by hand.

I grabbed the serpentine belt and was able to turn the bottom crank shaft back and forth. Just cant keep turning in circles I guess cause of compression?

I took your advise and turned the motor completely over a few times with a socket/wrench.

OK, that means the issue is electrical. If the starter is engaging, that means the trigger circuit is working and it has to be a lot voltage issue. Have the battery and all the cable connections tested.

Is the CEL on? (Check engine light)

Had an issue quite recently where the CPS (crankshaft position sensor) was busted and the symptoms were same as yours. There was a CEL for the CPS making my diagnosis quite easy - hope you get it resolved quickly. Good luck

Stop with the nonsense. The car doesn't even crank.
