2004 mazda 6. Battery light comes on and off at higher RPMs. Battery is only one year old. Volt meter confirms that alternator is producing a charge. Drive train randomly clunks likes it's try to downSh!t gears on it's own. Turning on or off the A/C will sometimes make the battery light go off but even higher RPMs will make it come back on. Battery light does not come on when idling. Revving the engine in gear or in park will make the light come on. Another yellow light flashes but does not stay lit, it's right in the center under the high beam light. Doesn't stay on long enough to even tell what the light is and the owner's manual is no help. Interior lights slightly dim and brighten at random times like the alternator has stopped producing a current. This dimming does not seem to be in unison with the battery light or tranmission clunking . Any advise would be helpful I'm 350 miles away from home visiting family and it's the weekend so no repair shops open. Any ideas?

You need to test you charging system with a digital voltmeter. There isn't much question that something is going on with the charging voltage but I don't know if it's just not charging at all or charging too much. Without any accessories on, it should remain between 13.5 and 14.8v at all times. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
