2005 GMC Envoy won't crank! HELP!

So yesterday while driving home the dash said oil pressure low - the oil pressure gauges went down and back up twice and it didn't happen again. I went to leave my parent's house after picking up my girls. Put the car in reverse - moved a little - it died. I put it in neutral - it started for a second and then died. I put it in park and tried and it acted like it was going to but didn't. The shifter is now locked in park - it can be manually shifted (my uncle pressed in something on the shifter). The key still turns and isn't a problem to get it out of the switch. The gauges don't move when the key is turned on. The battery light comes on and the dash lights. We have checked all the fuses in the fuse box along with the relay. Any ideas?

So is this a cranking problem or a starting problem? Is the starter cranking the engine over normally? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

If you're referring to the starter that he was bumping, then that would indicate a bad starter.

Im not sure bumping was a good word to use on my part. He wasnt per se bumping it. He put a screwdriver in it to make it do as it should and it turned over as it should.

slow down on the starter replacement- We need MORE information - this is a 4.2L? there is NO remote starter? No dash lights - nonee stay on or flashing? The shifter is in P - maybe try to start in N. Check fuses and starter relay...

Yes, if he was merely jumping the connections at the starter, that would indicate other issues.

4.2 I think. No remote starter. Lights on dash come on, battery light, radio works. The shifter wont come out of park unless you push the lever on the side in. Fuses and relay has been checked.

Does this shifter problem coincide with the starting problem? Do the brake lights work? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The shifter doesnt come out unless he presses something in the side. He called it manually shifting it. My whole front part of my car is apart.... the shifter is just a stick sticking up. The brake lights work.

I would check the power feed wires where they connect to the fuse box. That's a common problem point. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

whole front part of my car is apart.... the shifter is just a stick sticking up. what is going on here? do you own and know how to use a DVOM or test light? Again is the CEL light on? it will come on at start attempt @2 seconds? how did you check fuses and relay- visually is NOT enough - Where and how were the checks done? '
