Need advice please. Our 2005 Kia Sedona has been a great van for is. We bought it with 21 miles on it in 2005. We have never had any huge issues, apart from the ball bearings needing replaced 4years ago. Last week it wouldnt start, took it to Kia dealership they replaced the ECM, timing belt and tensioner and the crank shaft position sensor. They told us there was low oil pressure and the oil light was coming on during idle. They "encouraged" is to let them change the oil. We thanked them but said we didnt have the money to pay them to do anymore work on it but we went ahead and purchased the stuff to change the oil ourselves. He made sure to use the scare tactic of saying if we didnt let them do it right then "your van will probably seize up on you while you are driving on the highway and you dont want to get stranded with your kids especially the son with the wheelchair" we still declined paying them to do anymore work and brought the van home. It drove fine and with no oil light came on. However, the next morning as we were driving on the highway, the oil light came on and the van died a couple minutes later while we were driving and wouldn't start.. Exactly the way the mechanic said it would happen. The mechanic said he had neverseen the previous issue before. What i am wondering is.. Could he, sincehe had never replaced the above mentioned parts before, inadvertently messed something up that would cause the engine to seize up so quickly? We have never seen the oil light come on and actually just topped the oil a week prior to it not starting the first time. I am not mechanics but I did work at a motor pool and do know the basics and have learned alot over the years about other aspects of fixing cars. Amy ideas on what could be wrong?

Something sounds very fishy there. Even if they did find a very serious issue with the oil pressure, simply changing the oil would not have fixed or prevented anything.

Kia has a 10 year/100,000 mile power train warranty. It is only for original owners and isn't transferable to 2nd or 3rd owners, so since you are an original owner, you should check into that...

Since you've had some issues at one dealership. I would probably contact Kia or another dealership service department to find out all the details....

Obviously you would have had to kept up on all the routine maintenance for them to honor this. If you have been missing oil changes & trans services then you may be out of luck.....

But just not changing the oil isn't going to cause the engine to sieze (unles there was no oil in the engine) If they were aware of another more serious issue, then they should've made that issue crystal clear, other than pushing an oil change..

But on the reverse.....It they were stressing to change this oil & change it now......Why would you continue to drive this van without changing the oil......Especially if it was due?????

Thanks for the replies. The van is due for an oil change i about 1000 miles so we werent behind. And we have kept all records. I asked the mechanic, after he fixed the first issues and told us of the oil pressure issue, how theboil looked because it hasnt been over the time it was due for a change. He said the oil was alittle dark. I asked of ot was burnt and he said no just alittle dark. He told us that if they changed the oil they would clean out the uptake tube incase there was debris in it and that might be causing the problem when i asked him if he thought it was safe to drive until we changed the oil and cleaned the uptake tube ourselves on sunday and he said it would be fine for "alittle bit" but it could last months or years. Again, we have never had so much as the oil light coming on let alone any other kind of oil issues with our van and we are the first owners. So it was weird from the start that he said the oil light kept coming on while he worked on it when we have never seen it on and it didnt come on when drove it off after they fixed it. The only time we saw the oil light was right before it died on us today. I just find it ironic that ot all happened exactly like he threatened it might, and it happened the next morning. Maybe i am being too cynical but it seems strange that things happened, weather he accidently did something or did something on purpose. Amd another irony os that when we towed ot back to the dealership today the mechanic said it would be expensive to even xheck out since he would have to tear the whole engone apart to figure out whats wrong this time. He never said it even sounded like the oil pressure issue he taked to us about last night, and low and behold the manager was there with the mechanic and I were talking and asked if we wanted to consider just buying another Kia from the lot out front instead of spending so much to repair whatever is wrong this time.

It might cost a few extra bucks but it may be worth getting a 2nd opinion on this. If you know of a good independent shop, have them take a look at it & tell them everything that has been done. If you don't know of one ask around among your friends, see who they use.....

You never answered me on the warranty.....Does the van have over a 100,000 miles on it?
