2005 pt cruiser shift button problems

the cruiser is an automatic. it will shift through all gears but when you put it into park the button doesnt come up so the key will not come out. it is a 2.4L

Probably needs a new shifter assembly but it needs to be taken apart to confirm that. There could also be an issue with the cable to the ignition switch.
