Hmmm? Look for a relay for the fuel pump - not sure where. The fuel filter's are directional and may flow backwards but will plug up quicker if they work at all -- can't say for each type but can say that you should not put that one back on but yet again another new one. If it already caught any dirt it would be on the way to the fuel injectors and not worth the price of a fuel filter to risk it,

so you are syaing to change the fuel filter again and throw the new one away? why would the pump turn on this morning and not now the relay?

I don't know it but if the fuel filter won't flow backwards than the fuel pump may sense enough back pressure and shut off - I doubt that though.

the fuel filter is directional as it can catch more debris one way than the other. Even in a few minutes or less any debris from even messing with the lines to change it was caught and if you put it in the correct way those little bits then get thrown right at your fuel injection -- I think it's a $15 dollar filter but do you want to risk that? That's why the silly thing came with a plastic plug on the outlet side so even in handling it doesn't get a speck in that side.

Straighten that out and then find out where the power quits to run the fuel pump if it still doesn't come on. Car would normally be tough starting with a new fuel pump till it get the air out but they get over it pretty quickly in most cases,
