Vehicle: 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5S 2.5 Liter Engine ~40,000 miles Ok, I purchased this vehicle used 3 months ago from a dealer, where it had previously been a rental car. Everything in its history checked out. But only a couple of weeks after owning it, I noticed two things. First, whenever I accelerated, the Brake light warning would come on (All it says is "BRAKE," which is the same indication for the emergency brake.) I experience no problems related to the brakes pulling or being worn, since the car responds normally when the brakes are applied. However, to make the light go off, I have to apply the brakes, sometimes several times, only to have the light turn back on whenever I accelerate again. Possibly another symptom for this problem is that once I reach high speeds (normally around 65 - 75 mph) the steering wheel begins to shake, which normally makes me think that the tires are out of alignment. I do not know if there is a correlation between the steering wheel shaking and the brake light coming on, but I felt like I should share all of the information I know. The reason I haven't taken this into the mechanic yet is because I was a recent graduate from college who had a job upon graduation, but was cut due to budget cuts 2 weeks after purchasing the car. Sooo, if there is anything I can do to cut down on maintenance costs, I would certainly appreciate it. Thank you for any help you can throw my way!

Top off your brake fluid and your problem should go away. Keep an eye on it to make sure you don't have any leaks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I am experiencing the same exact problem. I thought it was time to change the brakes so I purchased new ones and I had my mechanic change them. My brakes did not look worn out at all, I had about 50% left on them. No, I am thinking it's either the brake fluid or the brake light.

If you need help with your car, you need to start a new question. This one is old and we don't address more than one vehicle in a question.
