sorry for the rookie question, but I put in semi-synthetic oil in my 2008 Escape last week, and now the dash board is displaying "5% oil life, change soon". What did I do wrong and do I need to get another oil change already?

Any oil should be marked with what specs it meets or exceeds and my strong guess is this oil is fine for use in your car - providing you used the suggested grade by "viscosity" which is clearly marked on container. I wouldn't know but there's a "reset" procedure to TELL the car that the oil is new. Technology is wonderful but it doesn't know what the heck you've put in it new, used, cooking oil or what TMK so it needs to be told. Owners manual should detail some sequence of holding buttons on radio or something like that to reset oil change reminder. TO ANY READER: It still makes sense to keep written logs on this stuff and manually check fluids in between scheduled time/miles, T
