2009 Dodge Avenger. Stuck in park. I have to lift black plastic on right to release but vehicle still does not move. Also when I press brake I do not hear the normal click release. https://imgur.com/a/6uLnczn

That would be called the shift interlock feature. It operates on the same circuit as the brake lights so the first thing you want to do is to make sure the brake lights are working when this problem is present. If the brake lights are working, that proves the circuit is good up to that point, then you'll have to get to the solenoid in the console. Disassemble as much as you have to to access the solenoid near the shifting mechanism. Us a 12v test light to test for power coming and going at the solenoid when the brake is applied. If power is arriving and switching and the solenoid is not triggering, the solenoid is bad and will have to be replaced. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Break lights work. How do I override? I tried the instructions from the 2008 video but it did not seem to help.

There should be a slot near the shifter that you can insert a key and release the lock. I think I see it in the lower left in your picture.

Some vehicle makes if before you start up turn key towards "run" position then can move shifter to "N" and start and go from there. Don't use park till you need to shut it off, T

I can not find a spot to put a key or screwdriver. Here are some updated images. Also I tried to put it in neutral while in run and acc but it did not unlock. Even with foot on pedal. https://imgur.com/a/LP9xzt6

What is the slot to the left of the 3 and the L? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

That is a plastic clip and hollow underneath. I noticed that if I press down on the pink that it pushes up on the black and I can shift into other gears but the car does not move. Do you think it is a fuse?

I couldn't tell you. Have you tested for power and ground at the solenoid as instructed.

Looks like cable was broke. We were able to reattach temporarily. It is the arm in the picture. https://imgur.com/a/vv44jQU

I don't know how you confuse a broken cable with a shift lock solenoid not working. Pretty different symptoms.

Question for Rex: Does the shift lever inside move but stays in park? If that cable in pic was even off the trans shifter + solenoid to lock shifter worked it would still move inside car just not change where it was last, T
