I have just purchased a 1964 Cadaliac deville. The car has been running ok. Yesterday I go out to start the car. There is no response. The lights seem to work ok. I put a charger on the car and leave it on for several hours. It still doesn't start.

today I sry to start car. Nothing. I put on a ground cable to try to make sure it is grounded. Nothing. I get another car and use the jumper cables. Still nothing. I take battery purchased in April this year and take it to the store. The battery checks ok and is fully charged.

Can you help me how I can debug and check the starter system or the ignition key wiring?

Check the engine ends of the battery cables. Actually they all need to be good. The solonoid could be the problem or the wiring to it. I think that solonoid should be marked "S" on one small wire and "R" on the other smaller wire. The one marked "S" will activate the starter if 12v is supplied to it. The other "R" is for the resistor for just spark when cranking.

Do you hear anything at the starter when you try? Check with a test light if power is there and if the S wire lights up when key is turned to start. Watch out as it might!

This problem is probably at the starter itself. If it needs to be replaced - consider fixing that one if it looks ok in general as they were pretty tough and can be reworked effectively,
