I have a 1989 chevy cavalier 4 cylinder with an automatic transmission. It runs like normal until it gets hot. then the transmission locked up and stalled the engine. The shifter went to N and I started the engine, but it stalled as soon as I put it into drive. As soon as it cooled down, the car was drivable again for a short distance to get me back home, but stalled as soon as I got into the driveway and would not go into drive without stalling the engine. What could be some possible causes of this?

Try unplugging the large round plug going into the transmission and drive it again and see if it still does it. Don't go too fast because you won't have any overdrive. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
