89 ford tempo cruise control linkage Sign In

Can anyone help me find a diagram for the cruise control linkage on a 1989 ford tempo? I have a Haynes manual but it is no help. I recently removed the throttle body to clean it. A rod connecting the TB to the transmission fell off and I cannot figure out how to reinstall it.

Can you take a picture of what your trying to get back together? You'll have to upload the image to an image hosting site and then post the link in here for us to see it.

If I remember the rod has a bushing in it. The bushing is plastic and usually falls apart.

I can do that, and I will as soon as I get a chance. I'll need to remove some parts in show to show you what you need to see.

I had a problem getting the pictures to show up in this post. You can see them at http://dougshaver.net/...s/tempo/tempopix.htm.

Re: 89 ford tempo cruise control linkage Sign In

Ok....I'm going off memory here so....well you know

For the cruise..That little black plastic piece is going to "piggyback" on the end of the throttle cable....you will see a little tip on the end of the throttle cable, the hole in the end of the black plastice piece snaps over that "tip" & then you just use the chain to connect the plastic piece to the end of the cruise cable...

For the tranny kickdown, it looks like you are missing a bushing that makes it snap on to the open pin on the throttle arm, the other end just snaps onto the other pin down there on the tranny..... the spring is for the tranny linkage, there should be little holes for it on each end

Thank you very much. I now know a little more than I did. I'll see how far I can go with it.

You need the plastic bushing for the end of the metal rod that connects to the transmission detent lever . Your local parts store should be able to get the bushing for you.

Plastic bushing that goes into the end of the metal rod's hole then snaps on to the transmission detent lever.

Thanks a bunch for the drawing. It helps a bunch. I'll be picking up the bushing first chance I get.

Jon and Sidom, thank you both very much. The pictures were just what I needed. I finished reassembling everything this morning, and everything is back working the way it was, except that it seems to be idling a little faster than before.
