91 cavalier idles very high

my 91 cavalier 4cyl is idling as high as it should at 100 km/hr but goes fine when driving at highway speeds except for a clunking noise in the engine. a friend told me to try the IAC Sensor but that seems too easy. the clunking resembles a bad balljoint sound but i checked all the suspension and it was ok. i thought a sticky throttle cable but it doesnt explain the clunking. any suggestions
