Hi I have a 93 Cavalier that has 252000 miles on it and after being driven for a while in the day, there seems to be this ticking sound coming from under hood. If you go fast it ticks faster. Can anyone tell me what this is?

That's some miles so it opens a whole book of possibilities. Try to rule out any belt noise by spraying belt with some (just a little) WD-40 or like it out of the way of important parts with engine off! Check for pulleys having play and waterpump but it sounds a bit like you have an hydraulic lifter that can no longer keep up with cam wear and you can fake it for a while with an adjustment. Email me if need be.

If you have the 3.1 V6 the timing chain can be too worn if you don't know how old it is. If it breaks or jumps I'm told that the 3.1 becomes a lawn ornament!

Easy on how much money you put in. I don't see many cars go a lot longer than that without getting costly. 1/4 million miles is on the whole car not just the engine.

Be well, good luck,
