93 Corolla Speedometer Sign In

I have a 93 Toyota Corolla, the odometer is operating fine but the speedometer is off. It is about 7 mph high and at times about 15 mph high. I have also seen it jump up to about 80 then go back down and up until it settles at about 0 a few times. This has happed just after starting the engine while in park. I am quite sure it has an electronic sensor as I have searched this on the internet. My question is if the odometer is correct and the speedometer off then the problem would not be the sensor but the head or perhaps wiring? Am i correct and if so should i have the head replaced?

thanks

It could be the head but I would check out the speed sensor on the trans first.

we had the same problem it seems the head is defective but i will checked first the diode of the alternator if one of them is busted.Somebody told me that speedo will not function well if one of the diode is busted.
