Hammer, you solved my ball joint problem as posted 4/6/11. Thanks! Got a new (bone yard) knuckle, and all is well!!!! Here is a new one for you. Auto: 93 Olds Ciera S, 6 cyl. 90K The car runs super on the open road. Hesitates around town: from a standstill up a grade, around corners after stop, etc. essentially low speed. Once again I had to draw on my immense back yard wisdom…..which means nothing. I let the car sit in the garage until cold, and waited until dark. Got a small flashlight, raised the hood and started the engine. Looking for electrical arking, especially from ignition system….drivers side was fine. When I moved to passenger side I noticed arking from under ignition control module. Hard to see, except for reflection on water pump bolt heads. Upon revving engine it also looks like some arking from under 3-6 ignition coil. Is this my problem? Any way to remedy without new parts? ouch@#%$*&? LUDLOW LOU

Very good possibility. It shouldn't be arcing there. I would suspect a cracked coil. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Hi Hammer: changing the coil made considerable improvement. Thanks. It still hesitates from a cold start. Once the engine warms...2-3 miles, it is fine. Of course I let the car warm up after starting it....1-2 minutes, but still a little sputter from stopped position. What do I look for? LOU

Don't overlook the basics of plugs and wires. Another thing to look at would be the MAF. I would try cleaning it first with some MAF cleaner.
