95 firebird alarm trouble Sign In

i just had to do some alternator work on my bird, and now when i connect the battery, it fires up an alarm: hazards and all interiors (including dash) flash, and the door chime sounds. This goes on for a few minutes, pauses for maybe 30 secs, then resumes. Ignition is locked out, but all accessories work. How do I kill this alarm so I can get this thing on the road again?

If after market there should be a main kill switch to turn it off. Just my opinion but these things are dumb and should be removed.!! If factory it needs more help than I can give you but again I'd have the thing taken out and all the cut wires soldered with shrink tubing put over the repair. I think the mechical devices that prevent the steering wheel from turning or the brakes from being used from a rod from the same device is as good as any and doesn't mess with car wiring. Hope you can find the place that put it in if aftermarket. T

Unfortunately, it appears to be the factory theft-deterrent alarm. I'm just going to have it towed in. I've tried everything I can think of, including the program mode procedures (no go). Hopefully the local dealership can completely disable the system. I have several electrical upgrades I want to make, and I would hate to have to go thru this every time!

This sounds like an after market alarm system and your guess is as good as mine is, as to how to deactivate the system. There are just to many different systems to be able to know or tell you without seeing it or how it’s wired in.
GM used a system called PASS-Key (Personal Automotive Security System) that would disable injector pulse and possibly the starter but it wouldn’t flash lights or any of the other things you mentioned.
If I’m right, you’re going to probably have to remove the system and restore the wiring back to original.
