So when the cavalier starts it makes like an awful sound, almost as if the flywheel is rubbing against the starter; the sharp cranking sound.
does anybody have any suggestions as to what that could be? i had already put a starter shim on it, and then i also noticed that a Bosch starter says Not to put a shim on the starter. help me please, i beg. =)

The shim thing about ended. What you describe IS why they were used but that stuff was on much older cars. They used to come with a rebuilt starter and I didn't need to use them almost all the time. What's the scoop with this starter? Is it new? T
