I seen a few posts on here ...my explorer wont stay running. I have changed the fuel pump, fuel; filter, fuel pressure regulator, the MAF, i have no clues as to know what to do next....it runs for a few minutes on the first start of the day or even for an hour but then it acts as if its not getting fuel and then dies....after waiting a few moments or even upto an hour it will start again but then back to the same issue it had before...i am tired of putting money into this car and not knowing whats wrong ..please help with any advice anyone can give me other than driving it off a cliff..also it is putting enuff fuel pressure so that is out of the question

This is courtesy of Hammer Time. You can only do this when the Explorer won't start. Once it restarts that means it currently doesn't have any issues so everything will test good. Never just throw parts at it. It gets awfully expensive and would be cheaper to just take it to a shop. All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment. If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money. Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for. These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause. 1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on. 2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on. 3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off. 4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test. Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out, you will know which system is having the problem.

You can scratch #4 as your problem is intermittent and won't be a compression issue. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Should also add check to see if there any trouble codes stored in the engine controller. Write down the numbers. Basically need some more data from the tests above to give you some direction in solving your problem. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

So you "looked" at the converter? So? Unless glowing hot what does that accomplish? Hot exhaust? Have to define that. Converters can plug up, act as an exhaust restriction or can if overloaded with unburned fuel get hot to glowing but not the cause of trouble, rather the result. If plugged it would usually be slow loss of power initially then could glow, back pressure too high and engine controls confused to make adjustments for the thing and would run lousy. Now you've unplugged the MAF so you should have codes again to interpret. IMO you are back. Once again need to find what it's lacking when it will not start, T
