I was driving my explorer home the other day, and the radio started flicking on and off. then i was losing acceleration, and everytime i pressed the break my console would make a dinging noise. I managed to make it home, and it wont start. The ABS light was on, but I just did my breaks a couple months ago. could it be the alternator?

It could be, but you need to start your diagnosis by charging the battery and then having it tested. Make sure the cable terminals are clean and tight after you reinstall the battery. Once you get the vehicle running check the charging system voltage at the battery terminals. Voltage should be somewhere around 13.5-14 volts. I put in a new battery, since my old one wasnt taking a charge. As I started it, the battery guage went to full, and then quickly went down to less than half. So I am assuming it must definetly be the alternator. I am getting a friend from the auto salvage in town to get me a used alternator, and i will be having my current alternator looked at and possibly rebuilt. Does this sound like a good plan?
