I have a 98 Buick Regal LS, not the supercharged one, and it has about 150,000 miles. I have had no problems out of this car in the 30,000 so miles I've had it. After seeing a movie, I started the car fine and drove it about 50 feet before it shut off. When trying to start it again, only the shift lights came on, and no sounds from the engine compartment. After about 30 minutes, and trying some other stuff like checking all the fuses, I pressed in harder on the key and it started fine. Drove it about 3 miles home and shut it off. When I start it now, it starts fine, but then the ABS light and the Trac off light come on, and I can't shift out of gear. Any idea's on what could be the problem?

Yes, The brake lights work fine, the dome light doesn't dim when starting the car, and everything else seems to be okay, except I noticed on one startup, the trip and milage display kept flickering back and forth.

I'm not a GM guy, but it might be a problem with the ignition switch(not the key cylinder). It is locarted down on the steering column under the dash. Hopefully one of the members that has more GM experience will stop by and pick this. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

I was afraid that may be it. This sounds like an expensive fix due to the fact the car has a manufactors security system with one of those sensor reading key setups. So it may not be the key cylinder, but the whole thing may have to be replaced. I was kinda afraid of that.

Might also be the key you are using. Have you tried another key? Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Yep, I have two keys and both respond the same. I thought the same thing because maybe once every.... three months or so, the security light comes on, but then goes off when I turn the car off and back on. Thanks for thinking this through with me. Maybe we can come up with something I missed.
