1998 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L About 150,000 miles My van was running fine. I was loading camping gear into it, so I had the doors open for about an hour. When I was finishing up, I noticed a fast ticking sound. I called my father, who over the phone said it sounded like the solenoid. I tried to start it, but it didn't make a sound. I never even opened the hood, just moved camping stuff to a different car and left. A week later, I came home and it was till making the fast ticking sound. I went out to look at it today. I opened the door and it was silent, tried to start it and nothing. Open the door a few minutes later and notice the dinging sound of open door (didn't hear it earlier) tried to start it and again nothing. While trying to find the solenoid, I noticed the fuse box. I tried switching the starter relay with the spare and then tried to start the van (while jumping it from my car). Still nothing. By nothing, I mean no lights, sounds, clicks nothing. I'm really confused by the fact that the dinging sound is there sometimes when I open the door and not other times. Should I start with the solenoid? How easy is it to change? I usually don't do anything harder than changing oil, but my husband is deployed right now and my family is about 500 miles away. Any suggestions or advice? Thank you so much.

You need to start with a battery. Have it tested and I bet it tests bad. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
