100,000 + miles. Water pump leak. Timing chain and tensioners and damper guides are needed. I need a site or someone to be my "Mitchel" manual. Have'nt done one of these yet. Will have it this weekend (11-22-08) Thanks.

The V6 is straight forward once belt and cover pulley is out of the way. Cleaning the gasket is more time consuming than the replacement. http://www.autozone.com/...eId=0900c15280187c77 Link gives some idea about what you are up for, for just the water pump. On the V6 you shouldn't need a timing chain yet or do you?? Again - that's for the 3.4 V6 - you didn't specify! T

Sorry Tom, I did'nt specify. It is the 4 cyl engine. Was told it would be a good time to replace the timing chain with that many miles and it being apart for the water pump. Thanks, Bill

http://www.autozone.com/...artProductDetail.htm I'm not finding a replacement interval for the "chain" for this. It's quite a job. The chains frequently way outlast the rubber belts that all suggest routine replacement. If you've got the tools and time at the age and miles it wouldn't hurt but I have mixed feelings on OEs that are probably all metal gears unless there's a specific complaint or noise perhaps. Your call. If you were doing the chain anyway then I might consider doing the pump but not necessarily the other way around on this model, T

Tom- thanks 4 the advise, we changed the water pump only (it was a job, not for the inexpierenced), timing chain & gears looked good. NOW it has set a code P0300- multiple engine misfire. Could be plugs, low or high fuel pressure, vacuume leak. These are the readings from autozone. This car ran fine until we changed the water pump. I pulled the IAC off & cleaned the bore with throttle body cleaner along with the solenoid. We added SEA FOAM to the tank & drove back to the shop (25-30 mi) We are cleaning plugs as I type. Any new suggestions? Has 133k miles.

Basics: If it was fine and just had the water pump - retrace what steps or things that might have been bumped or disturbed when doing that. Was coolant spilled on anything, stuff needing to be unplugged and removed - any clues like that? Random misfire is general as you saw with the code results, plugs, wires to them, coils, vacuum leaks, crank or cam sensor - anything common to all, T

I have discovered these engines have a habit of warping the intake manifold. We pulled the intake off and put a straight edge along the mounting edge with a light behind it. Talk about a gap! These manifolds are plastic and warp pretty easily. My son is a manager at an O'Reily's store and says he sells these intakes a lot. Talked to the owner and he says the car did have issues while in city traffic. That is when we found out it was a pre existing condition. Does NOT want it fixed! I am done- I thank you much Tom and will re post with future problems. Bill
