'99 s10 overheats/coolant scent in cab
|
|
|
Hey everyone, This is my first post, just kinda stumbled upon it via Google. Anyway, on to my issues...If I let my truck idle for a while it starts to overheat. Could that be a thermostat problem? Also, when I am driving and let my foot off the gas and just let it coast in gear, I smell coolant from the vents in the cab. Any ideas and/or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks 1999 Chevy S10 2.2L 4Cyl 192k miles

Sounds like you have a leaky heater core and you're low on coolant now. You need to replace the heater core or at least bypass it ASAP before you do any engine damage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

If I bypass it that will just eliminate my heat? 1999 Chevy S10 2.2L 4Cyl 192k miles

Of course it will. If you want heat, you're going to have to replace the core.

I think I may just need to replace the gasket...I replaced the water pump a little while ago and had to take off (I think) the heater core, i never replaced the gasket on it... 1999 Chevy S10 2.2L 4Cyl 192k miles

I don't think so. The heater core is in the dash.

Oh, haha I have kinda limited knowledge when it comes to cars. I'm, out of necessity, trying to teach myself about auto mechanics. 1999 Chevy S10 2.2L 4Cyl 192k miles

OK here's one 4 ya... I have a 1999 s10 ZR2 off road... my thermostat went and i replaced it, and now the other day the same thing happened to me it started over heating driving or parked, so i flushed the system, replaced the water pump and now the truck runs 4 5 min and is over heating still and loosing alot of antifreeze (i should mention it has always leaked but not this bad). So all in all im kinda ticked at it and needing to get it fixed. any help will be very very much appreciated!! thanx!
