I have a 96 dodge intrepid. The pressure transducer on the return AC line is not working and needs to be replaced. I have a couple of questions> Do I have to evac the freon in the system first, before I replace the transducer? I am hoping the transducer just treads on and there is some kind of pressure valve in there, that way I dont have to fool around with replacing freon. Is the transducer replaceable or do I have to replace the entire line ? Then I know I have to buy some cans of freon and repressue the system. Thanks Jack

Transducer?? If you are talking about a pressure switch they don't involve the refrigerant (Freon is a brand name) your car uses 134a. Switches just unscrew with a shrader valve behind them. YES - if needed the refrigerant is to be recovered and after a repair you MUST charge back into a well held vacuum. Whatever -- you can rent a vac pump, but you will need gauges and someone who can evac the system if necessary. Are you up to all this? How much have you been quoted to just have a shop do it? T
