AC problem

I have a 1998 Isuzu Trooper with about 211,000 miles. The AC cycles off and on when hot. It goes off during idle but comes back on when I rev the engine. Had the freon checked and it's fine. Someone suggested a bad/failing/weak alternator? It's getting warm and I need a solution. Thanks in advance!
