Some additives have some benefits but rarely live up to advertising claims. There is really no such thing as "mechanic in a can" so they won't fix any problems. Some will help in preventing problems. Things like some of the fuel additives can be helpful if used regularly. As far as the flushing of the crankcase, I would NEVER do that. If you have sludge buildup in there, the best place for it is right where it's at. You don't want it breaking off in chunks and plugging things up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
