Need to get the front brakes inspected. The 'grease' could just be brake dust, which is considered normal. But, with brakes being rather important, better to be safe than sorry. As for the 'pulsation'; Do you feel a 'shimmey' in the steering when applying the brakes? Or, does it feel like an 'egg shaped' affect? If a shimmey, it's likely that the front rotors are warped, which occurs from heat. If not, it's more than likely a rear rotor or drum that is warped or out of round. Regardless, either can be trued with a brake lathe. If the brake pads or linings are questionable in longevity, might as well replace them at the same time. But, no matter what, get the brakes inspected right away. Loren SW Washington

A couple points to add here. As Loren pointed out, distortion in brake rotors is generally caused by excessive heat and rapid cooling. 2 Things contribute to this, the thickness of the rotor meaning once it is resurfaced, it becomes even more susceptible to this problem. The other contributing factor is the driver's braking habits. Some drivers are more aggressive with their braking than others and in turn tend to have these distortion problems more than others. Past experience has shown me that if you have a vehicle and driver that has already experienced this problem once, that if you simply resurface the rotors, the problem will return even faster therefore I always replace the rotors on a vehicle that has experienced pulsation and distortion once already.
