My Serpentine belt has come off twice after going through huge puddles of water. The belt did not break but had to be put back on. The most recent time being just a month ago. When I first start my car it seems like the belt has been making almost like a belt type noise on the right hand side of the car. I assumed it was my serpentine belt. After I drove it awhile the noise quit. It was not like a high piched belt noise you hear some cars make, more of a racket rumbling type noise. Now this morning I go to start the car and the noise is pretty loud, to me it looked like the Serpentine belt is on there fine from what I can see by opening the hood and since I know nothing about cars. After the car ran for a few min, then my battery light came on. I turned off the car and didnt go anyplace. Could a bad serpentine belt cause this, or do you think its unrelated. I checked the battery connections and they look good, not a lot of gunk or anything, maybe a little bit of white stuff. It was the coldest it has been here today, in the low 30 s. Any ideas on what I should do or what it might be. I dont want to drive it anyplace like this. Dodge Grand Caravan 2000 -So I just moved the car out onto the street, it now wont turn over, I hear the starter trying, the dome lights still come on. Thinking it has to be the battery or something that charges it, my alternator has not given me any signs, it went out once so I know what that is. The starter has not given me any troubles...Just not sure what it is...Any ideas....

Dayco makes a kit that includes a pulley that has sides on the pulley. This keeps the belts lined up and keeps them from being thrown off. We have installed a few and have had no problems. I think CarQuest sells them.

Re: Battery Light On Sign In

There are 2 common reasons for this happening on that vehicle.

1) The belt ternsioner starts to wear internally and the pressure of the belt causes it to lean out slightly off center. This tilts the pulley and causes the belt to migrate off the side...... solution, replace tensioner and belt

2) Sometime the lower splash shield gets left off and hitting a water puddle knocks the belt off.

Reading your original post sounds like it may be a bearing. Has anyone removed the belt and spun the pulleys by hand to check for bad bearings? If they turn poorly or make a rumbling noise that indicates a bearing is worn out.
