If you have power (radio, lights, alarm sys etc)does that means that it still can be a dead battery? Car won't start up...friend wants to give ma a jump... should I try that or can it be alt or starter? He said to make sure that's not the problem a weak battery. may needs a battery boost he said...don't know please HELP... Would that be safe to do?

Yes - your battery could be too low to start but plenty for dinky items. Think of a little 9v household battery that would make lights, radio (some) and other things work but never have the power to start a car - would be handy though! Follow instructions for jump starting in owner's manual to the letter. They usually put a tag on jumper cables with a generic version of the "how to" for that also. Note: Jump starting vehicle to vehicle should be a last resort when options are available. They make portable jumper boxes that work well. Best to read both vehicle's manuals for any warnings as some propblems can cause a problem with the donor vehicle! Check out the age of your battery. If 3-4 years now it's not a waste to get a good new one. Most folks should also own at least a small battery charger sold as "maintainers" - Trickle chargers etc., and many are automatic and under $20 bucks! They take their time but it's a better way to charge up a low/dead battery.... Good luck, T
