Brake Issues Sign In

My brakes started to feel hard when I pushed on them and then entire car started shaking. The drivers front tire felt like it was going to fall of it was shaking so bad. Then I realized if I pulled up on the brake pedal with my foot it would STOP shaking (but not 100%). Also, it felt like the brakes were grabbing on when I was in traffic and I couldnt accelerate until I manuall pulled the pedal back up with my foot again. Then those brakes started smoking one day and every time I drove they would smell like they were burning. The tire also started to go bald more and more literally noticibly by the day. Until the metal was showing. SO here is what we have tried:

My mechanic friend put a new caliper in on the drivers side and a new master cylinder too. Then new TIRES. I do not want this new tire to go bald because the brakes this morning (this was all fixed last night) started acting weird agian and shaking the car and I had to manually pull up on the pedal again (and we have a new master cylinder).

What could this be? we are STUMPED!!! Have you heard of a tire going bald from bad brakes?
This is a 1991 Lincoln Towncar with only 25,000 original miles on it (it was my Grandmothers and she NEVER drove it). It's pristine.

Re: Brake Issues Sign In

First off, you should never change only one caliper. They are always done in pairs for the brakes to work properly.

At this point I would replace the other caliper and the 2 front flex hoses. They deteriorate internally and can hold fluid pressure causing the brakes to stay applied.
