My car started making a "metal on metal" noise from the front brakes, soon followed by a grinding feeling in the brake petal (a day or so later). I drove it like that for about 2 days when the it seemed like the front brakes were "seized" as I tried backing out of a parking spot. Being in a place where I really could not leave my car, I powered back anyways which resulted in even more ugly noises. Shortly after that my brake pedal was going almost to the floor and with very poor braking power. At this point it seems that I have complete brake failure. Before this issue started I seemingly had perfectly fine front brakes. Plenty of pad and no grooves in the rotor. What has gone wrong here? My car is under a warranty but only for "mechanical breakdown" reasons. Brakes are considered normal maintenance, but this seems like it shouldn't have happened and I suspect a "breakdown" but I have no idea what specifically is broken. WHAT HAS GONE WRONG? ARE YOU FOR REAL? Your brakes go metal to metal, you continue to drive it. ................. They bind and lock up and you just force it. ............You have got to be kidding. Well, what can I really say. While what you're saying is probably true, things aren't always so simple. Some people NEED their car for critical transportation and can't always confront major mechanical problems at the drop of a hat. All of what I described transpired over a 48 hour period. And regardless of if the way I handled it was ideal, the actual failure itself was not for a lack of maintenance and upkeep on my car. I had just done the rear brakes 2 weeks prior and was told the fronts were good to go. So,.. My my main concern now is actually trying to determine what is broken in my car. Does anyone feel like being helpful in that regard, or is that the trade off of bringing my problem to a free forum? Thanks.

Nothing is "grinded down". The pads, rotors, and calipers are all intact and show no signs of damage from the exterior.

I should have probably said so from the start the but the issue is isolated on the front passenger side. It's not both sides.

If you have it all figured out, why are you asking us? I suspect the jamming was the pad slipping out of the holder and jamming in the rotor and the reason you lost the pedal is the piston popping out of the caliper.
