Hello, I need some help with my brakes. I just purchased the car in the fall and have not done any repair or "real" maintainence yet. I noticed the other day that when I push the brake pedal I have to push it in as far as it will go, it does not seem to be pressing the brake pads because it takes a long stopping distance to come to a stop. Also I noticed a burn smell after I use my brakes, for example at a light, I do not know if this is an issue. I have a Ford Taurus, 2001 with a 3.0L and has approximately 75, 000 miles. To my knowledge the pervious owner did not repair the brakes and he purchased the car new. Can anyone help me?

It simply need a complete brake inspection and service front and rear. The odor concerns me - could be brake fluid, grease or something foriegn on friction surfaces and pads if there's much or any left at orig 75K! T
